The basics of Texas Hold'em poker do not require a master's degree to learn it. In fact, people with normal IQ can easily understand the rules of the game in a very short time.
In Texas Hold'em poker, there are two players who play the roles of small blind and big blind. Blinds are the bets that must be placed after each hand is completed. When you are the big blind, you are required to make a bet and when you are the small blind, you must make a bet that is half of the big blind. The roles of blinds move on from one poker player to another in a clockwise fashion as the game progresses.
The dealer then begins distributing or dealing one card face down to each player on the poker table in a clockwise fashion, starting with the player to his left. After everyone has a card, the dealer will begin another round of dealing and gives each poker player another card face down until each player already has two cards in his possession.
Now the first round of betting begins. The poker player on the left side of the big blind is the first to act, going in a clockwise direction and ending up with the big blind. A player can raise, call or fold if someone has already raised the pot. The big blind can also opt to check if the pot has not yet been raised.
After betting has ended, the dealer proceeds to deal three cards face up, beginning with the poker player to his left and going clockwise. The three cards that are dealt in this round are called the flops.
Another round of betting starts. This time, the small blind is the first to act. A poker player can now choose to check or bet if no one else has made a bet or raised the pot. If someone has already bet or raised the pot, a player can call, fold or raise. Most Texas Hold'em poker rules allow only 4-5 bets or raises to be made in each betting round.
The dealer then deals one card face up, as usual starting with the player on his left side. This round of betting in poker is the turn or the fourth street.
The next round of betting is just the same as the previous rounds. You can choose to call, fold or raise on raised pots and check or bet on unraised pots.
The last card to be distributed is called the river, with the dealer dealing one card face up to each poker player. The last round of betting now starts, with the same choices and options as the previous betting rounds.
The poker player who has not folded his hand after the last round takes home the pot. Poker players can also showdown their hands to determine the ultimate victor.
